The SECR was an entity for 23 years, and this article should cover that period. It is no use saying "for further information see the two separate companies"! The book I quoted by O.S.Nock makes it quite clear that much was achieved during that period, and was almost entirely because of its managing director Cosmo Bonsor, who must have an article of his own (and will do!) - The statement The union is curious in that the two probably hated each other more than any other two companies in the UK cannot be substantiated, and was, according to most historical accounts, purely down to the Chairmen of the two companies, particularly Edward Watkin. He retired in 1893, and from then on the rationality of the two railways coming together gradually made sense. Peter Shearan 13:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
